I don’t dislike broccoli, but let’s be honest, it’s not as exciting as homemade pizza or pasta or ribs!  And yes, it is incredibly good for you – one of the original superfoods! So many superfoods…

Super or not, I’ve been known to enjoy some simple steamed broccoli as a side, or even better, broccoli roasted in olive oil until it’s just a little crispy at the edges, but if we’re talking about crave-worthy recipes, neither of these come to mind. This sesame broccoli slaw, on the other hand, is broccoli at its best.

Sesame Broccoli Slaw with Cucumber Salad

Broccoli may not be the trendiest, and it’s definitely not getting the press that cauliflower is currently enjoying, but it deserves a moment in the spotlight. Especially starring in this sesame slaw. While cauliflower seems to think it’s a big deal, masquerading as rice or tortillas or pizza crust, the broccoli in this salad isn’t in hiding. This salad is fresh and a little crunchy, with a slightly sweet and savoury sesame dressing.

Broccoli Slaw Cucumber Salad and Sake

You know it’s a good salad when you’re sneaking bites out of the bowl, as if it were icing or cookie dough – it’s broccoli…there’s no need to be stealthy! If anything, you should congratulate yourself on your healthiness…

Tim paired the broccoli slaw with simple cucumber mint salad and fresh snow peas with miso dressing. This trio of green goodness accompanied grilled steak with wasabi barbecue sauce and a little sake – because, why not?

Sesame Broccoli Slaw Recipe

We used a food processor to shred the raw broccoli, which gives it a really nice texture, much preferable to those pre-sliced bags of matchsticks. And did I mention how easy this recipe is? Super simple – a bit of chopping, stir up the sesame dressing, mix, and you’re good to go! It’s even better the next day. Here’s the recipe…

Instructions
  1. Shred the broccoli in a food processor. Finely dice the peppers and combine with the broccoli in a large bowl.
  2. Prepare the dressing by whisking together the remaining ingredients in a small bowl (or, if you can't be bothered with whisking, shake together in a small lidded container) until combined.
  3. Toss the dressing into the broccoli mixture. Enjoy!
